Poppy Day in Elk Grove Village
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) established the Buddy Poppy program to honor veterans and support their families. The program began in 1922, making the VFW the first veterans' organization to conduct a nationwide distribution of poppies. The poppy was inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," written by Colonel John McCrae during World War I, symbolizing the blood shed by soldiers in battle. Come support our members as we are positioned throughout our community to support EGV Poppy Day!

VFW NATIONAL HOME/ ILLINOIS DAY
Since its founding, the VFW National Home has grown from an old frame farmhouse to a sprawling campus with playgrounds; park areas; and multiple buildings, including single-family homes, a community center and gymnasium, childcare facility, guest lodge, chapel, and administrative offices.
Over the years, the National Home has evolved to meet the changing needs of America’s military and veterans’ families. Through it all, one thing has remained constant: the National Home’s commitment to honor our nation’s veterans and active-duty military by providing help and hope for their children and families.
Elk Grove Post # 9284 traveled to National Home, Eaton Rapids, Michigan to donate $ 3500 to support our fellow veterans and their families in need. Consider matching our donation at Donate - VFW National Home and mention Elk Grove Village Post # 9284.
